In recent years, the mobile game industry has boomed thanks to the powerful hardware manufacturers put in our handsets. We are able to run games in high resolution and framerates from a mobile which was not something I would imagine ten years ago. In today’s market, consumers have very limited options to secure a smooth gaming experience and not be stopped by performance throttling caused by a frying SoC processor. Well, this may have become history after the launch of the GameSir X3 Type-C Peltier-Cooled Mobile Gaming Controller via Indiegogo on 20 April 2022.

A Groundbreaking Fusion

With the success of GameSir X2, the company is encouraged to travel further and come up with a genius idea in response to the market demand. For the very first time, we have a Type-C mobile gaming controller that comes with a built-in Peltier-enabled cooling system. GameSir X3 is able to reduce the temperature of the surface up to 24°C and 12°C for the CPU. To achieve this result, GameSir manages to put together a combination of a 4000mm² cooling area, 128 heat transfer columns and a 7500RPM 7-blade fan on the back of this device.

The Type-C connection ensures a zero-input delay during the gameplay; this is absolutely great news for players who are into shooting, or rhythm-matching games that require an extremely low delay to operate. GameSir X3 chooses to use Kailh switches for its bumpers, triggers, face buttons and the D-pad, which ensures durability (up to 3 million clicks) and potentially helps the gamer achieve a better score from its crisp tactile feedback.

A Big Bonus – Customizable Button Layout

Similar to the well-known Xbox Elite Controller, GameSir X3 offers pretty much the same feature but something slightly better. For thumbsticks, users can choose to swap between ‘high-rise’ and ‘low-rise’; for D-pads, there are two options for different designs of pattern; for thumbstick caps, you get an option for either ‘concave’ or ‘convex’; and lastly, the button layout. GameSir gives consumers an option so they can make their own decision to use whether the Xbox layout (ABXY) or the Nintendo layout (BAYX). (How cool is that!?)

In addition, GameSir X3 equips a dedicated button for screen capture, I assume it would work just like the same button on a Nintendo Switch Joycon? A single press and your moment of glory are saved for the retrospective.

An All-rounder

GameSir X3 is versatile. This controller supports not only Android games but other cloud gaming platforms. This means, in theory, you can enjoy your Steam games with this controller remotely via the Steam Link Anywhere when you are away from the PC. The device is designed to work with most mainstream Android mobiles with a Type-C USB port and a height up to 179mm. The battery-free design renders it excellent portability with only 270g in weight, a real mobile controller designed for mobile phones. Last but not least, is the ergonomic design. This comfort grip will give your palms amazing support and guarantee a stable play.

At the time of writing, the fundraising campaign on Indiegogo received $11,686 AUD from 112 backers. Perks start from $69 USD for one unit, and that is equivalent to a 30% discount from the RRP.
