Android 7 Nougat
The Nougat update for the Huawei built Nexus 6P is in full rollout mode as of today with Vodafone Australia advising the halted Over The Air (OTA) update will re-commence today.

The update was halted last week as they advised that they had found an issue that was ‘affecting rollout of this software update and we are working with Huawei to resolve ASAP’. The source of the issue hasn’t been divulged, but it is now resolved and Vodafone Australia is advising that the rollout will start again from 5pm today.

Other Australian carriers who carried the Nexus 6P on contract in Australia include Optus and their subsidiary Virgin Mobile. We approached both carriers regarding the status of their rollout of the Nougat update for the phone and Virgin advised that they had completed testing and ‘the Nougat update for the Nexus 6P is available to Virgin Mobile customers’. When asked about their update, Optus advised that there had been ‘No halt to Optus’ update. It has already been rolled out to Optus customers’.

In real terms, there should be no barriers to downloading the Nougat update for the Nexus 6P. Simply enrolling your Nexus phone in the Beta program prompts an almost immediate prompt to update to the release version of Nougat, Google also recently posted the factory image for the phone on their Nexus Files page, so if you want to you can even start afresh with a complete wipe.

If you’re a Vodafone customer and been waiting on the OTA update though you should be getting a prompt to download the OTA shortly.

With optus, I just got the update this morning but after the installation it still says I’m on Android 6.0…

    Darren Shandler

It was a security update, Optus Tech support said after that update the nougat update should follow in a couple days, although I’m not too sure they know what they are talking about…

Vodafone user here. No updates at of now

It looks like Vodafone is similar to Optus as reported by Darren Shandler. I got a small 22MB update last night but still sitting on 6.0.1. The folks at Vodafone’s update site said that this small maintenance update is required for the Nougat update to be rolled out. She said that now that I have this small maintenance update, Nougat should roll out within the next 2 weeks for me. I guess you are in the same boat. Hope it all goes well for you.

People’s, don’t wait. Join the beta programme get the update straight away and then unenroll. I lost no data as the version you get is the fully credentialed one and not beta. I’m no techno and it worked perfectly.

Which AU network are you on? And now that you have got the update through Google, what is the performance like? I am seriously considering doing what you did except I am weary of the phone not working on VodaAU network. And what about future updates? Maintenance updates? Do these now come directly from Google or will we still have to wait for Huawei and VodaAU?

    Michael Oesterheld

Hi Catman, I’m with Optus but bought my phone outright from Harvey Norman. Are the performance is spot on and the version showing on my phone is 7.0. All you need to do is un-enrol from the beta programme and your updates will arrive as they did before.

When is the update coming for Telstra Network?

    TheCatMan

Did Helstra sell the 6P? I thought they only committed themselves to the 5X only. So how will they provide an update to a phone they did not sell?

    Fortera

Telstra don’t sell the 6P, so that’ll be when Huawei roll it out themselves.

I got mine 6p from JB Hifi, which carrier am I waiting for?

    Simo

    You’re with JB-Tel.

    Haven’t gotten the update, Optus.

You can also get the OTA from the Nexus OTA Images download page if you don’t want to wipe everything.
