In the middle of last month, Google announced the addition of Promo Codes to the developer dashboard in Google Play. This is to allow the developers to run promotions, provide codes to sites like ours for reveiw or just be nice to their acquaintances but it appears that another developer has seen an opportunity to grab an install base out of this change.
Promo Codes scans your device to find out if you have a compatible app allowing promo codes installed on your phone, you get one shot per day to win a promo code for an app. Once you’ve installed Promo Codes, to get in the running to win a promo code for an app, you need to:
- Load up the app, press “I’m feeling lucky!” and see how lucky you actually are!
- If you win, you’ll receive a promo code that you can redeem on the Play Store.
- If you lost, you’ll be redirected to the promoted apps Play Store page to check it out anyway.
A great idea thats for sure, to date though there isn’t much information about how “lucky” users are on a regular basis. We are big advocates at Ausdroid for rewarding developers for their hard work by dropping some cash on apps, so if you’re really keen on an app head to the Play Store grab it. But if you’re willing to wait, the Promo Codes app is worth a look.
Whats your take on an app giving away other developers work?
I have this app and tried it like 5 times, no luck yet! Here’s to hoping i get one soon (:
Interesting. I haven’t been following much what happens on Play Store, but is their an option to be notified of when a certain app is on special?
Not yet.
