It’s the company that’s synonymous with internet speed tests, so when Ookla releases a new Chrome Extension for testing internet speeds we take note, and we’re pleased to see it looks great.

The chrome extension is available now from the Chrome Web Store, it’s free and works on all the usual platforms – Windows, OSX and ChromeOS.

Once installed it’s a straightforward process to run a speed test, simply hit the icon up in the toolbar with the rest of your extensions and let it do the rest.

It’s a pretty looking thing that is actually pretty accurate, at least it was when I compared results to the built-in Google and Bing speed tests. I did find it a little slow to respond, even after a restart but, it works and works well.

If you want to perform some speedtests right from your browser head over to the Chrome Web Store and install the extension now.

Is there any real advantage over just using the website, each extension adds another Chrome process and so at least on my work laptop I’m running out of memory.
