Google Maps is tracking your location if you haven’t turned that option off, but it’s not a nefarious plan to track your every move, rather it gives Google anonymous data for other services. The My Timeline feature shows you what data you have accumulated and you can edit what you were doing at the time, with Google adding ‘Catching Pokémon’ as an activity option.
The My Timeline feature shows up in the Nav Drawer in the Google Maps app, use the calendar icon at the top of the page and then scroll through the day and that 2Km walk, ride, run etc. you took can now be listed as Pokémon GO activity. You can also add in the in-game camera shots from Pokémon GO you took of any Pokémon you caught during your walk – or any great pics of scenery etc. you took over the course of your activity.
It’s just a cute addition to Google Maps, I mean everyone loves Pokémon right?
Oh, and if you really want to get rid of all your ‘My Timeline’ data you can do it by following these steps:
- Open the Google Maps app.
- Tap the Menu > Your timeline.
- Tap More > Timeline settings.
- Under “Location settings,” choose Delete Location History range or Delete all Location History.
How many km have you clocked up playing Pokémon GO since it launched?
what about peoples ingress addiction
175km so far. Not much compared to some others I personally know, but all of it is more than I would have walked before playing the game.
