Last year we saw the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 be upgraded later in the year to a Snapdragon 821. It then first appeared commercially in the Google Pixel phones. A new rumour has surfaced touting that the end of year upgrade to the Snapdragon 835 will appear in the second generation Google Pixel phones.

Fudzilla is today reporting that a source is telling them that the new Snapdragon 836 will make it’s first appearance in the 2017 Google Pixel phones. While the Pixel 2 may get the chip first it will not be exclusive with so many companies now refreshing their devices in the latter part of the year to include these chip upgrades — for example last year OnePlus released the OnePlus 3T with the newer Snapdragon 821 processor.

With the current Pixel lineup already producing amazing photos the new chipset is set to offer even better imaging while at the same time increasing battery life. It will only be an incremental upgrade over the Snapdragon 835 but it will be an upgrade; faster SoC with battery life improvements. Anyone else drooling at the thought of what Google can do with a Snapdragon 836?

We are coming up to the Pixel 2 announcement window with its announcement expected to be in the coming few months. Stay tuned to Ausdroid as our love for all things Pixel and Google is the same as yours.
