It’s been just over a year since Niantic Labs, the makers of the massively successful Pokemon Go Augmented Reality game, announced they would be launching a location based Harry Potter game. Today, Niantic has released a trailer for the game, called Wizards Unite, as well advising the game will launch next year.

On their announcement site, Niantic says they can’t wait to bring the magic of the world of Harry Potter to you in 2019, a delay from the 2018 launch date we were expecting when the game was announced.

Along with the date, Niantic has released a trailer, and a sign-up page for those interested in playing the game. The trailer, like the Pokemon Go trailer, is an exciting look at the possibility for the game though like that trailer the end product will likely be vastly different – but it’s still getting us excited.

The sign-up page gives a little more information about the game, as well as the option to add your details and join the ‘Statute of Secrecy Task Force’. There’s a couple of paragraphs included in there which shed some light on the game:

Please resist the urge to panic. Traces of magic are appearing across the Muggle world without warning and in a rather chaotic manner. We worry it is only a matter of time before even the most incurious Muggles catch wind of it. We call on all witches and wizards to help contain the Calamity or risk the worst of times since You Know Who. Brush up on your spells, get your wand ready, and enlist immediately.

The Ministry is looking for witches and wizards willing to roll up their sleeves and volunteer to save the wizarding world from the Calamity. As a member of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force (a new task force formed in partnership between the Ministry of Magic and the International Confederation of Wizards) you will hone lightning fast wand reflexes, an ability to sniff out the faintest whiff of magical disorder from afar, and proficiency in advanced casting of multiple spells.

To sign up for information on the Wizards Unite game you will have to be aged 13 or older, and of course you’re then able to be targeted by Warner Bros for offers and more – which you can opt out by emailing [email protected] or clicking the unsubscribe link in their email.

The number of Augmented Reality games coming out now is growing with Ghostbusters, Jurassic World, The Walking Dead and now Harry Potter joining in. They’re a lot of fun to play, and certainly encourage me to get out and walk a lot more. To get more info on Harry Potter: Wizards Unite head over and sign up.
