Last year Google introduced Fast Pair, a protocol that allowed for quick and seamless pairing of Bluetooth headsets and speakers to any Android phone running 6.0 and above.
Today they have announced an expansion of Fast Pair bringing an ability to connect Fast Pair compatible Bluetooth accessories to devices associated with the same Google account. Not only will Android devices be supported but also Chromebooks come next year.
Fast Pair will connect accessories to a user’s current and future phones — no more having to pair every single device from scratch when you get a new phone. Not all devices are Fast Pair compatible though with Google working closely with “dozens” of manufacturers to make their upcoming devices Fast Pair compatible in the coming months. These manufacturers include Jaybird, Bose, Anker SoundCore and more.
Google have also worked closely with “leading Bluetooth audio companies such as Airoha Technology Corp., BES and Qualcomm Technologies International, Ltd. (QTIL)” to add Fast Pair support to their software development kits.
Hopefully all this means that eventually all the Bluetooth accessories we buy will be automatically synced to future phones. While not incredibly time consuming for most people it will still make Bluetooth accessory use just that little bit easier.
