Risk taking is great. Bacon is technically carcinogenic, but it’s so delicious. There are however some risks I just won’t take. Like getting locked into the wrong NBN plan. Can you imagine?
Every NBN internet service provider resells access to the same network, but way in which capacity is bought means not all telcos are equal. If you want to avoid getting stuck with an under-performing connection, you should consider a no-contract NBN plan with no setup fees. This way, if you’re not happy with your NBN performance, you can leave whenever you want without paying termination fees.
Most ISPs will offer to sell you a modem, but some will force you to buy a model they range. For the sake of simplicity, we’ve only included NBN providers where a modem purchase is optional. These plans are sorted by price, with the cheapest up top.
Unlimited NBN 50 plans with no contract and no setup fees
Unlimited NBN 100 plans with no contract and no setup fees
Unlimited NBN 12 plans with no contract and no setup fees
There aren’t a heap of providers that offer NBN plans with no contract and no setup fees, and the plans are kinda similar when it comes to the ones that do. However, there are still a couple of offers worth calling out:
- Telstra is waiving sign-up fees on its no-contract NBN 50 plan until Christmas. This would normally cost you $240, so it’s a pretty good promo if you want a contract-free Telstra NBN connection.
- Click, Sumo, and Tangerine will all give you a discounted rate for the first six-months. Since these plans are no contract, you can always leave after you discount runs out.
Sumo will give you a further discounted NBN rate if you bundle your internet with your electricity and gas. - Aussie Broadband is the only provider to publish CVC graphs for each NBN Point of Interconnect, so you can get an idea about what your speed experience will be like ahead of time.
If you can’t decide which speed you need, we’d normally say NBN 50 plans are best for most people. NBN 50 is a massive speed boost over ADSL, and plans tend to be excellent value. NBN 100 plans are best for internet lovers who need downloads ASAP or larger families where everyone has their own device. NBN 12 is really only worth considering if all you need is a basic internet connection for web and email.
So all of these come with email and telephone? No?
You seem to be telling only half the story.
Cheap and no functionality may be good for some, not so good for others.
Talk to your isp, sometimes they can waive fees.
Mine just did on a new connection due to loyalty.
