At their launch event in Sydney on Wednesday, Samsung Australia has announced that their Galaxy Tab S3 and Galaxy Book 2-in-1 devices will finally arrive in Australia on July 28th.
Announced at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, the tablet range is a step into the high end for Samsung in their tablet and 2-in-1 range. The Tab S3 is again an Android tablet, this time launching with Android N, while the Galaxy Book 2-in-1 devices are Windows 10 based machines. Both options come in various hardware configurations with an option on both to get a 4G connected device.
Samsung is including an S Pen with each Galaxy Tab S3 and Galaxy Book, with the new and improved S Pen tip reduced to a miniscule 0.7mm with 409 levels of pressure sensitivity. Samsung has also partnered with worked closely with stationary company Staedtler to develop the ‘Noris Digital stylus’, essentially an S Pen which looks like a Staedtler pencil but has an S Pen built-in. The in-hand feel and weight is identical to that of an actual pencil from my time spent with the stylus at the event, and looks great – just don’t start chewing on it.
The Staedtler S Pen will be made available as an additional purchase, or for people ordering the Galaxy Book before the 12th of September, Samsung will give them a complimentary Staedtler Pen as well as a Samsung Multiport adapter valued at $198RRP.
The Tab S3 includes quad-stereo speakers that allow you to experience stereo sound in either portrait or landscape orientation. The speakers are tuned by AKG, and switch orientation automatically with the orientation making it a very versatile – and quite a high quality auditory experience. The speakers are quite loud, but don’t seem to top out when that volume is raised, which when paired with the high resolution HDR display on the Tab S3 spells out a really impressive multimedia machine for on the go.
Pricing
Pricing for the 9.7″ Tab S3 starts at $949 for a Wi-Fi model, while the 4G model steps up to $1,099. The Tab S3 comes with tablet and S Pen as well as AKG earphones. Samsung will be selling the Tab S3 through their online stores and the Samsung Experience stores Australia wide from July 28th – but you’ll be able to get the Tab S3 4G model from carrier partners soon.
The Windows based Galaxy Book models start at $1,099 for a 125GB Wi-Fi model with a 10.6″ screen and range up to $1,899 for a 12.2″ screen with 256GB of on-board storage. I bought my Tab S2 in October 2015 for the grand total of $462 from Officeworks. 2 years later and the price has more than doubled? Lol, they’re really reading the tablet market brilliantly.
Not paying that money in Aus getting on from Amazon USA
Like most gadgets posted on this site I’ll wait till amazon is open here. Local market is just ripping us off.
Hellishly expensive for the S3. It’s only AUD$684 shipped to Australia from Amazon, vs $949 here. Thats a $265 difference! Plus I’ve seen it on sale for under AUD$630 delivered on Amazon, making a huge $330 difference.
I have the Samsung Tab S2 9.7″ (2015) and the Samsung Tab A6 10.1 (2016) with pen and the cheaper A6 is a much better performing tablet than the S2.
What’s with Samsung ripping off Aussies at $949/$1099 for a 2017 tablet with an 820 chip anyway? Already outdated and at full ‘Aussie Tax’ overcharge prices. Only an idiot would pay that much.
Not a hope in hell buying one of those when I can get a surface pro for just a few dollars more.
