In the current day and age, there are a lot of technologies that have become indispensable. Tablets haven’t been on that list but with the current generation moving towards mobile integration, they may well come back. Lenovo has a significant list of new hardware ready for launch including tablets, set to change how we use tablets.

Lenovo Tab P12 Pro 5G

The leading light of the Lenovo tablet release is a 12.6-inch AMOLED screen that runs 2560 x 1600 resolution in a 16:10 ratio. If you’re working on something that will utilise it, the refresh rate will automatically wind up to 120Hz or down to 60Hz for other activities. It’s capable of 600 nits brightness, supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+ to make the tablet capable of productivity and entertainment.

As you delve deeper into the entertainment arena, you’ll be enjoying a better quality sound with JBL speakers. Four of them to be exact, delivering a broader sound range for media playback. That’s all backed up with some pretty solid specs in the current generation of mobile hardware including:

  • A Snapdragon® 870 Mobile Chipset
  • 8GB RAM
  • Wi-Fi 6 and — optional — 5G data conectivity
  • 10,200mAh battery capacity that’s compatible with 45W quick chargers
  • 5.63mm thin with a very acceptable 565 gram (tablet) weigh in

Keen eyed users will also spot the pogo pins which allow the snap-on keyboard, sporting full sized layout including a trackpad, to connect. The tablet also includes a stylus, the Precision Pen 3 – the combination of these turn your tablet into a productivity powerhouse while weighing — total package — 1 kilogram particularly when coupled with other hardware.

Project Unity: Making your hardware work together, for you

Project Unity is Lenovo’s take on the current movement towards an integrated system, similar to that which Apple has run so successfully for years. The premise is fairly simple, in that devices like your PC or Laptop and Tablet should work together. But there is a lot of hard work, engineering and software development that have occurred for that to happen:

The Project Unity application effectively transforms the device into a smart companion for your Windows 10 or 11 Lenovo PC. This completely wireless experience allows you to easily pair the two devices with a simple pin input and seamlessly extend your desktop to the tablet for additional display real estate or mirror it when needed.

There’s a lot more to it with presentation capabilities allowing you to control a PowerPoint and see notes from your tablet, shared note taking during a call or media playback shared between devices. The possibilities, even in the early stages are huge, with seemingly a lot more to come across the months ahead.

Lenovo Tab P11 5G

If the Tab P12 Pro is a bit too much tablet for your tastes or need, then the P11 5G may do the trick. It is designed more for lightweight portability than the P12 productivity capabilities. Obviously from the product name, it’s got 5G capability aimed at keeping you entertained on the move.

The 11-inch IPS display runs at 2K resolution and delivers Dolby Vision. From a specs perspective, you’ll be rocking the Snapdragon 750G 5G Mobile Platform with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage available. The battery is significantly smaller than the P12 Pro coming in at 7700mAh battery — supporting 20W quick charge — which will see most users through a big day of use. It’s a reasonably lightweight tablet too at only 520 grams and available in a range of colours: Moon White, Storm Grey, Modernist Teal.

Both of the new tablets are running Android 11 out of the box and present appealing purchase options. Unfortunately at this point, we don’t have final pricing or available dates for Aussie shores.

To complement the tablet functionality, Lenovo has released Smart Wireless Earbuds. As a starting point, the battery life should see you through 28 hours of use with the case and earbuds starting fully charged. It’s great to see an option that can connect to multiple devices with prioritisation given based on audio output.

The 11-inch drivers will deliver good sound range and clarity, with noise-cancelling capacity built-in. They’ve got touch controls that are common for wireless earbuds to control playback and calls. They’re IPX4 rated so will deal with a bit of rain or some sweat if you’re at the gym. Each earbud weighs only 4.2 grams and connects to your device by Bluetooth 5.

We’ll be keeping on top of this as the technology lands, with a particular interest in Project Unity and its capability to bring technology together.

Phil, typo in the second last paragraph
11-inch drivers.

Chomebook Duet 5 with 13.3 OLED screen is the one I’m excited about.

Not sure I need the increase in screen size, but upgraded processor will be welcome.

Dan

I’m with you on wanting to see this one. The storage space will be one of the first Chromebooks with 256GB.

I found the 10.1″ screen on the first gen of the duet to be to small to effectively use some apps so the increase in size is welcome.

This and their new AMD ryzen powered win11 laptops interest me loads more then these tablet offerings.

Any word on the 13″ duet 5 for Australia. It will be released in about a month and is just over $400 US. Sounds like an awesome Chromebook but as usual we will be lucky to see it release locally

Dan

Lenovo are usually pretty good with bringing their releases to Australia. I doubt, however, we will see it before 2022.
