If you’re buying a Nexus phone this year, you’ve undoubtedly heard about (or you should’ve heard about) USB-C. Unlike the MicroUSB standard we’ve come to know and love, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P feature a different charging port, and (sadly) this means that a lot of your accessories will need to be upgraded or replaced in order to work with these new devices.
Fortunately, there’s quite a few options and we’ve loaded up the Ausdroid Shop with the essentials you’ll need from day one with your new device – cables, chargers, USB OnTheGo options .. we’ve got you covered. We’re also putting together a special bundle of accessories designed especially for Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P buyers, as you can see below.
We’re taking this opportunity to tell you about these products for two reasons. The first and most obvious reason is that the Ausdroid Shop helps support our business, and helps keep us going. The second reason, and the one you should care about equally, is that these accessories are actually kind of hard (if not impossible) to find in retailers.
You can buy inferior products from overseas, or you can support Australian business for roughly the same price, with Australian warranty and support, and get your accessories delivered to your door within a day or two.

Cables and Adaptors
The mainstay of any mobile enthusiast, having a charging or sync cable nearby is an absolute must. Sadly, all those MicroUSB Cables that you’ve accumulated over the years probably won’t be too useful anymore, but we’ve got an adaptor you can use to extract some more life from them using a MicroUSB to USB-C adaptor, as well as some USB to USB-C cables on the shop ready to go.
USB 2.0 to USB-C Cable – 1.0m – Black and White
- Reversible Type C connector (there’s no wrong way to plug it into a port).
- Reversible plug orientation and cable direction.
- Charge your phone from a USB power source including car chargers, wall plugs, power banks and even other laptops.
- Supports scalable power charging
These cables are $12.95 ea, and are available in black and white for immediate shipment.
MicroUSB to USB-C cable
- Colour: Black
- Connector: USB-C 3.1 (Male) to Micro USB 2.0 (Female)
- Length: 0.2m
- Data Transfer Rate: up to 10Gbps
Using this cable, if you’ve got a microUSB Charger that you don’t want to readily replace, you can convert it to a USB-C socket and continue to use it with your Nexus 5X or 6P. This adaptor is $16.95 on the Ausdroid Shop.
USB OTG and Hubs
If you’re a real mobile warrior, or you just enjoy the simplicity of being able to access USB devices (keyboards, mice and storage) on the go, then USB OTG is the way to go. We’ve got a couple of options, including a simple 1-port USB-C OTG cable, and a 4-port USB-C Hub.
Four port USB-C Hub
- 4-port hub with the latest USB 3.1 (Type C) connector.
- LED power indicator.
- Plug and play support.
- Over current protection.
- Backwards compatible with USB 2.0.
- Power supply port provides optional power to connected devices (power supply not included).
Using this hub you can connect a number of USB devices to your Nexus phone; external mice and keyboards, USB keys or USB hard drives.. the Nexus range supports all of them, and though it might be a bit of a niche use case, this is a handy tool for the mobile warrior. I know I’ll be keeping one of these in my Ausdroid bag for the foreseeable future.
Available today for $29.95 on the Ausdroid Shop.
One-port USB OTG cable
OTG cables offer the same functionality as the USB Hub above, except that it’s just a single port instead of multi port. These cables are typically used to access USB drives on the go, when you don’t necessarily have a computer handy. I’ve personally used them on long flights to watch movies stored on a USB stick, to access media kits and information handed out at events on USB drives, and more. They’re a great addition to the true geek carry.
We sell these for $12.95, and we’re expecting more stock soon.
Chargers for your home, office and car
Chances are you’ve got a good number of phone chargers lying around the place, or you might be charging your devices from other things with USB ports; my car for example has a standard USB port which you can plug a USB to MicroUSB cable into, to charge devices. However, if you’re looking for some extra juice at home or on the go, consider some of our Quick Charge compatible chargers which will add some much needed juice to your new Nexus phone much faster than a standard charger.
Home or Office 9V Quick Charge 2.0
- Compact, lightweight design.
- Over-heating, over-current, over-charging protection.
- Compatible with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology.
- Charge supported devices up to 75% faster than those without Quick Charge 2.0.

- A-Tick certified for use in Australia.
Use this Quick Charger with your Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P, or any other devices compatible with the Quick Charge specification, and you’ll add juice to your phone in no time. You’ll need to partner this with a USB to USB-C cable (listed above) in order to use it with a Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P, and you can use your existing MicroUSB cables for other devices.
These are available for $34.95 each.
AUKey Car Quick Charger – MicroUSB
- The Aukey USB Turbo Car Charger can charge compatible Quick Charge 2.0 devices up to 3x faster than a conventional car charger.

- You get faster and more reliable charging.
- To minimise distraction and maximise your safety on the road, we created the charger to automatically shut down its internal circuit and stop charging if any dangerous current or surge is detected.
A worthwhile device to keep in the car, with a MicroUSB tip you can charge all your other mobile devices, and when paired with a MicroUSB to USB-C adaptor (listed above) you can keep your Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P charged up as well.
AUKey’s Dual USB Quick Charger
- The Aukey USB Turbo Car Charger can charge compatible Quick Charge 2.0 devices up to 3x faster than a conventional car charger.
- This charger can charge a phone and tablet at the same time utilising the 2.4A port and the QC 2.0 port.
With much the same features as the MicroUSB charger above, this charger has two charging sockets, allowing you to mix-and-match MicroUSB or USB-C cables to charge your various devices. Pair this with a USB to USB-C cable, and you can charge your new Nexus phone on the go.
These are currently on pre-order for $36.95. Please check the product page to sign up for preorders.

Just received the 4-port hub for my Nexus 5X. It has no power supply ( says that when I read the info again ) but nowhere does it say what voltage, polarity, current or anything about the power supply, or where you can get one. Frustrated.
With the AUKey’s Dual USB Quick Charger – did you test that both ports show as “charging rapidly” or just the quick charge port?
Haven’t tested the car one, just the desktop ones. The QC port definitely reports ‘charging rapidly’. Would have to double check the non-QC port, though at 2A 5V, it’s still putting out 10 watts which will charge your phone fairly quickly. I’m back in the warehouse Tuesday at this stage, and can test then. If not, drop a line to shop@Ausdroid.net and the guys might be able to try it out first thing Monday.
Ah no worries – if you could give it a try when you’re there on Tuesday that’d be great thanks Chris, no rush – just trying to evaluate the best options to accompany my new favourite phone 🙂
I may be being dim here but I don’t get what a microusb to usbc cable is for. Usbc end goes into Nexus, but what would you be plugging the microusb end into? Surely all most people need is USB at one end to plug into car, pc, existing chargers etc (granted you need a new charger for quick charging)?
Easy Phill; if you’ve got an existing MicroUSB charger (e.g. a cigarette lighter that has a permanently affixed microUSB tip on it), you can use this microusb to USB-C cable to convert it to male USB-C for use on a Nexus.
Cool. Got a car charger and screen protectors. I’d already ordered some type C cables on the eBay.
Cases… Nah.
Delivered. Very Fast.
A++++. Would buy again.
Now I just need the friggin phone
New nexus are not qc2 compatible
Be careful, it only supports 5v charging. If you want 15w, that means u need the USB c standard 5vv/3a. 9v/12v systems are not supported
The Nexus 5X charger in the box is only 5V/3A, and though the chargers listed above are QC2.0 compatible, we tested what they’d provide to the Nexus, and 5V/3A is what they put out.
Will those chargers fast charge as well as the one that comes in the box?
I might buy one and plug it in at work. I go in and out of the office a lot, but if I can fast charge it for 30 mins and juice it up a bit, that’d be great. Currently I just plug my phone to usb charge on my work computer, and that’s absolutely horrid. Takes an hour to go up 10% or so.
I sat in the warehouse and tested these chargers on the Nexus 5X. All got it to show “charging rapidly”, as does the supplied charger from LG. The Nexus phones might not be QC2.0 compatible, but that doesn’t seem to matter. They charge the phone plenty quicker than a normal charger.
Any rough idea when the Dual USB should arrive?
I notice some Over Seas sellers have them already.
XDA has a comprehensive list of cases too.
