Volume alerts in Android have been a bit of a mess for the last couple of versions, Google sought to bring some sanity to the madness in Android 6.0 but it appears that Google is playing around with the volume settings again, with the ‘Do Not Disturb’ feature disappearing.
The feature is the Do Not Disturb until next alarm option, which lets you silence your phone while still being safe in the knowledge that any alarms set would still come up. The silence until next alarm option was missing until recently re-appearing after the Android 6.0.1 update began rolling out, but it appears Google may have some sort of server side control of the feature as it seems to now be missing.
There’s no option to change the setting on any of the Android 6.0.1 devices we’ve got here at our disposal – Nexus 5, 5X, 6, 6P, 7 (2013) or Nexus 9 – so it appears that it’s fairly well across the board. It also doesn’t seem to be available on the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium which we have here, though it’s on Android 5.1.1. There was some discussion on reddit regarding changing the date to affect the setting, but that hasn’t worked for us – but your mileage may vary.
There’ll surely be more on this coming so we’ll have to wait and see what happens on this one.
Do you use ‘Do Not Disturb until next alarm’?
I use Do Not Disturb on my Note 5, it’s a blessing. I’d be lost without it.
I used to use the Do Not Disturb Until Next Alarm until it was removed. It was great because I could set that when I went to bed and not have to worry about it in the morning.
I’ve looked for for “volume limiter” app so I don’t get deaf while using headphones. The ones I found seems to be a hit and miss. I love this feature on iDevices.
this has been found to be a date bug it will fix itself within the new year and surely be patched with the next Android update
I have nexus 6 and android 6.0.1
If you press and hold volume down button, this will mute your sound and turn on vibrate mode.
Once voume is lowed, let go of volume button and press volume down again. This will activate do no disturb mode.
I can set mine by the notification drag down. It says “alarms only” . Nexus 6p. MMB29N. Is that the same result?
I use it all the time on my Note 4 but it isn’t update to Android 6 yet. Save’s me getting woken by emails and text messages or other apps in the middle of the night. I hope it doesn’t go away. But I guess someone will make an app that does it (probably already have)..
I still see it on my Nexus 5 running 6.0.1. Volume down all the way and then press volume down once more. Or am I missing something and this is refering to something else?
Previously when you selected a Do Not Disturb profile, you had three options for when it would end: Until you turn this off, For x hours, or Until next alarm. The last of these – until next alarm – is no longer an option.
