This February is looking busy, at least for launches of phones with Samsung expected to announce a new range of Galaxy S handsets in Barcelona prior to the start of Mobile World Congress (MWC). With a phone that close to launch leaks are inevitable, and the latest leak shows off the GS7 camera modules, as well as what seems to be the phone itself, albeit dressed in one of their developer boxes.
The leak which was reported on GSMArena, shows off a set of camera modules with the same phone model # – SM-G930F – as we saw last week on the Antutu benchmark site, which if that was correct, would make these modules the 12MP rear camera and 5MP front-facing camera.
The second photo shared is of the completed Galaxy S7, though from the looks it appears to have been ensconced in the now famous ‘developer’ or ‘Pizza’ box which is used to protect the original design of the phone from prying eyes as Samsung seeds the devices to developers and partners worldwide. The design of the phone may be mostly hidden, but that distinctive Samsung look is there, as are those capacitive buttons again.
Side Note: Isn’t it good to see a leak photo taken with something other than an iPhone? Pretty sure HTC is happy that the One M7 has made an appearance here.
Samsung is apparently not going to hang around when delivering the Galaxy S7 to market either, with leaker and tech writer Evan Blass advising that Samsung will launch the phone in the US on March 11th. Whether this will reflect a global launch date isn’t clear, but Samsung have generally been pretty consistent with global launch dates or at least kept them close together.
Samsung has pretty consistently announced their new Galaxy S series phones the day before the start of MWC and though they haven’t announced any events for February as yet, we expect to see the announcement of the first Samsung Unpacked 2016 soon. Chris will be on the ground in Barcelona this year, so we hope to have hands-on reports for the phone (or phones) pretty quickly.
