Optus ZTE Zip Banner

We have started to see a shift here in the marketplace, with manufacturers like ZTE bringing relatively cheap 3G and more recently 4G handsets and tablets to the market. This trend continues with Optus launching the ZTE Zip 4G as a prepaid handset for just $49.

The ZTE Zip is obviously a very budget focused handset and it isn’t going to particularly wow you with high end specs. For the price though, the specsheet could look a lot worse. That said, lets have a look at what you get for the price:

  • 4″ TFT, WVGA Display (480 x 800)
  • 1.0GHz MTK Quad Core CPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB ROM with approx 4GB user space available, expandable to 32GB via microSD
  • 5MP Rear Camera, 2MP front facing
  • Bluetooth 2.1, FM Radio
  • Network Connectivity:
    • 2G: 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
    • 3G: 900, 2100 MHz
    • 4G: Band 3, Band 7, Band 28
  • 1600 mAh Li-ion user-replaceable Battery
  • Android 5.1 (Lollipop)

I am a little disappointed that the ZTE Zip only comes with Android 5.1 (Lollipop) and not the latest version of Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) which has begun its roll out to devices world wide. All up for the price, you could certainly do worse.

The ZTE Zip is available through your local Optus Store and through the Optus Pre-Paid website for $49. It is also important to note that with this device like any other pre-paid devices, the ZTE Zip is locked to the Optus network and unlocking fees will apply should you wish to use the ZTE Zip on another network.
