As we wrote earlier today Motorola has announced the Moto G4 and the Moto G4 Plus during an event in India. Unfortunately, the live stream was either accidentally or intentionally region restricted and we weren’t able to watch along, even using all of our VPN powers. We were able to follow along thanks to Twitter though, with a few other sources.

From what we have been able to confirm the specs for the two models look like this:

The Moto G4 Plus stole the show, so details on the standard Moto G4 are limited and could change as more information comes to light. That being said, it doesn’t seem like there’s a lot between the two new phones save the fingerprint scanner and higher resolution camera on the Plus model.

At the time of posting both the India and Brazil Motorola websites were “down”, this is where we are expecting the details to break first. As the two largest Moto G markets it looks like they are going all out for those releases.

International pricing and availability weren’t discussed. In India the Moto G4 Plus will go on sale midnight tonight local time (about 4:30 am AEST), and as expected it’s an Amazon exclusive – at least for now. Release details for the Moto G4 will follow in the coming weeks.

Amazon’s Moto G4 Plus page is now online, and with it comes a price – starting at ₹13,499. Presumably, this is for the lower-spec version of the Moto 4G Plus, but it also notably converts to about AU$275. That’s a pretty decent price for a phone with these specs.

An interesting point – Amazon’s product page promises that the Moto G4 will get an upgrade to Android N and O.

The Moto G has usually fared well in Australia, so we’re expecting to see one or both of the phones launch here. We’ll be chasing up with Motorola’s local PR in the coming days. We’ll update the specs as more information becomes available.

How did the Moto G4 look to you so far? Let us know in the comments.

Stay tuned…soon

If the price shown in the article is close to AU /NZ release prices I’ll get the G4+ model. Had the original Moto G and it was great.

For the pricepoint I am very impressed with the Moto G4 Plus!
Currently my LG G4 is away for repair from the dreaded boot loop fault, so I’m using my Moto G3. These budget handsets are really hitting some highs!

Not very impressed with the look of these, to be honest. The fingerprint scanner on the G4 Plus is pretty awkward looking, I actually think the back of the Moto G 3rd Gen (2015) looks way better, and neither the G4 or G4 Plus look like they have the waterproofing of the 3rd Gen. Plus, I have a sneaky suspicion that when they come to Australia, both the G4 and G4 Plus won’t be anywhere near as good value as the 3rd Gen was. As we all know, it’s not as simple as converting INR over to AUD, Australia almost… Read more »

If they launch it at those prices converted AND upgrade to Android N. Well take my money.

Scott

Seriously Lenovo, launch this in Australia with actual availability of all three models and then TAKE MY MONEY. Kind regards.

Fred

Tell me again, what were the specs of the iphone 6s? What was that? 1334×750 @ 4.7″ ?

Go on, for a laugh throw into your table the apple ‘flagship’ specs vs the favourite ‘budget’ phone in the android stable – and make sure you put the prices at the bottom.

I’m a little surprised there’s no USB type C
