Here at Ausdroid we are Android tragics, some more than others. When Google announced the Android One project, followed soon after by the handsets themselves we had one in particular who moved heaven and earth to get one. Android One handsets are designed to be low end, affordable handsets running stock Android to spread the glory of Android to the world. Today, through a local Google Blog a new Sharp Android One device has been announced to be heading to that developing country, Japan (/s).

The Sharp Android One device, the 507SH, will arrive with a 5inch IGZO LCD display, a 13.1MP camera, an octa-core CPU along with a 3010mAh battery. It also has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage than can be expanded using the microSD expansion slot.

Not only does it house all these goodies but it is capless IPX5/8 water and dustproof. It is unusual to see such specs in what is meant to be a low end, affordable device but the waterproof option shows that some manufacturers are taking the Android One program seriously.

The Android One Sharp 507SH will arrive in three colours, blue, white and black with guaranteed monthly security updates for 18 months from the phone’s release. It is planned for release later this month through local Japanese carrier Y!Mobile.

Makes you wonder if we will ever see any Android One devices here in Australia. If Japan get one, why not us?
