There’s a couple of new Android Wear smartwatches about to hit the market, notably the more upper-class Michael Kors smartwatch, and the sporty Nixon Mission. The good news for those holding out for a new watch is that the Mission has just cleared the FCC, so a release could be coming very soon.
The FCC documentation doesn’t actually give a huge amount of new information, because it’s the FCC we don’t get any processor info, though we can confirm the watch has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n (2.4GHz) as well as Bluetooth 4.1 LE. The FCC pics also show that the Mission has a 400mAh battery.
A pic of the various chips on the circuit board for the watch is present, but if you can read the numbers your eyes are better than ours.

The external photos supplied by in the FCC filing show off the watch from the rear, which confirms the lack of heart rate sensor and shows the pogo pins used for charging the watch with the custom cradle. The side of the watch is shown off on both sides which shows a cover for the mic, a cover you can close if you want to retain that IP68 water/dust proof rating.

Though it’s shown off in black, the Mission will be available with a load of customisation options. The base watch has a stainless steel bezel and silicon band, but there will be the option to get 20 bands and 15 bezels including Cerakote, stainless steel, gunmetal, gold and more.
The Mission will be quite sport oriented with a number of pre-installed apps – Surfline, Snocountry, and Trace – for tracking your outdoor activities.
Pricing for the watch is looking to start around $399USD making it quite the expensive smartwatch, when can you get your hands on one? Well, Nixon hasn’t advised when beyond later in the year. We’re currently talking to Nixon about their Australian release and we hope to have more information soon.
A smart watch with a heavy focus on sport and there is no heart rate monitoring? Seriously disappointing.
I’ve been wearing my G Watch R on my mountain bike rides, but this would be far more suited. And it doesn’t have the flat tyre like the Casio has.
I would interested in this if it was two months ago but now I am waiting for Google’s own smartwatch. Finger crossed.
