It would seem that BlackBerry is still going ahead with launching their next Android powered smartphone the DTEK60. Despite not even being announced yet, the DTEK 60 has mysteriously popped up and since been removed from the website of online electronics retailer B&H Photo Video for US$499.
Rumours about the DTEK 60 have been circulating for a while now, but thanks to the leak we now have a full spec list for the phone:
- GSM / 4G LTE Capable (unsure of the exact band varieties it will support)
- North American Variant
- 1.6 GHz + 2.15 GHz Dual-Core CPUs (Snapdragon 820)
- 32GB Storage Capacity + 4GB of RAM
- 5.5″ AMOLED Touchscreen Display
- QHD 2560 x 1440 Resolution
- BlackBerry Productivity & Security Suite
- BlackBerry Convenience Key
- microSDXC Memory Card Slot
- Android 6.0 Marshmallow
The price is a little steep when you convert it from USD to AUD, $499USD is around $661AUD when converted at todays prices. That price also doesn’t include postage and handling fees on top including any price fluctuations which do occur when converting US Dollar to the Australian Dollar. It also doesn’t take into account shipping fees returning it to the US for any warranty issues – you know, the usual issues with grey imports.
Blackberry is still yet to launch the predecessor to the DTEK 60, the DTEK 50 in Australia officially, so it’s likely that grey importing the phone is about your only option. The DTEK50 can be purchased via Buy Mobile Australia’s website for $419.95 + Postage and handling, so you may get some deals if the DTEK 60 interests you.
That all said, according to CrackBerry, the price of $499US for the DTEK60 also does include a BlackBerry DTEK60 Soft Shell Case, and a BlackBerry RC-1500NA Rapid Travel Charger along with the phone itself.
Sadly though, during its time up on the B and H Photo Video website, there was not ETA given for delivery and shipping dates, however given October 11 was one of the rumoured release dates and BlackBerry has yet to make it official, the next rumoured date in line is October 17 – so keep an ear out for that.
We are reaching out to BlackBerry Australia to find out if Australia will see either both the DTEK50 and the DTEK60 officially launched here on our shores and as soon as we here anything, we will let you all know.
