We have been waiting for a while for Andorid apps to become widely available on Chromebooks. We have seen more Chromebooks slowly being added to the list of those to support Android apps and now it looks set to expand — by a lot.

We have known that Android apps would come to some Chromebooks but how many were just not known, until now. Google have made a change to the Chrome OS support page stating that:

All Chromebooks launching in 2017 and after as well as the Chromebooks listed below will work with Android apps in the coming future

Rather than list the Chromebooks released prior to 2017 that will support Android apps I encourage you to head over to the Chrome OS support page and see if yours in on that list. Google also say on the page that this list isn’t the final list for Chromebooks that will wind up supporting Android apps.

While we won’t be able to bring Android apps to every Chromebook ever made, we’re continuing to evaluate more devices based on a range of factors, like processor type, GPU, and drivers. We’ll update this list as new devices are added.

So far the Chromebooks we have seen released/announced so far this year have indeed come with Android app support, so it is good to see this confirmation from Google that in the future every single Chromebook released will support Android apps. Hopefully this gives the Chromebook market a shot in the arm in what has recently beena very lean time for them in Australia.

For those on the fence regarding a Windows 2-in-1 or a Chromebook 2-in-1 (or a Macbook etc), like some of our team, this could well be a deciding factor pushing them towards a Chromebook. For me I think it just could be. Now where is my Samsung Chromebook Pro?

“Now where is my Samsung Chromebook Pro?”

Completely agree!

Pity that it sounds like we won’t be getting it here in Australia. Importing isn’t really an option as Samsung provide zero warranty support for devices not sold in this country.

The Pro is pretty much everything I want in my next big purchase and I’ve been looking and waiting for about 18 months.

Is there any way to encourage Samsung to bring it to Aus?
