Today at MWC in Barcelona, Lenovo finally took the wraps off their latest Android phones: the Moto G5 and the Moto G5 Plus. The Moto G line is definitely the flagship of the midrange devices and the latest addition to their line is no exception.
The Moto G5s are a continuation of their recent two-model strategy, offering a base model with respectable features and a Plus model with beefed up specs and some more premium features. The Moto G5 is a 5.0-inch device while the Moto G5 Plus 5.2-inch which is slightly smaller in physical size than last year’s 5.5-inch model.

The Moto G line is very important to Moto both in Australia and internationally. In an interview with Moto recently, they confirmed that the Moto G is their best selling device in Australia. The current Moto G range is proving very popular with outlets like The Good Guys, which has a high percentage of their overall handset sales going just to the Moto G line.
With features like Fingerprint Sensors and decent f/2.0 cameras making their way into both models, the Moto G5 continues to offer great features at a traditionally more affordable price. With devices like these, the “need” to purchase the far more expensive devices has really become just for those who want the absolute best of everything of the status of such devices.
Cameras are the last premium feature to come to the mid-range, and Moto is clearly working on this here. Will the Moto G5 and the G5 Plus with their 13 MP and 12MP respectively f/2.0 rear facing cameras finally bring the goods to the mid-tier market? We will know soon.

For me, the G5+ is the most interesting phone launched thus far at MWC. Assuming it will retail for about $400 or so, I suspect it will garner lots of attention. Especially with the new 12MP f/1.7 dual pixel camera, which sounds just like the Galaxy S7 camera optics.
Full HD display and the excellent Snapdragon 625 inside an all metal chassis makes it seem like it could make some people think twice about forking out more than twice as much money for a flagship that isnt twice as much phone!
