Google I/O 2017 kicks off next week and today the official Google I/O 2017 app has been updated in Google Play with a whole bunch of features for those attending (or not).
The app is really aimed at those attending the 3 day event, which takes place at Shoreline Amphitheatre right next door to Google’s campus in Mountain View on the 17th, 18th and 19th of May – that’s next week!
The main feature of the Google I/O 2017 app is access to the schedule of sessions that will be running across the event, with session info and links to videos, either live or recorded, of streamed events for those not attending sessions in person. Sessions can be displayed by which track they belong to, and there’s a lot of different tracks available including Android, IoT, Assistant, VR, Play and lots more.
The ability to reserve a seat at the sessions for those on the ground is included, but there’s still an option if attendees show up with first come, first serve seats available. If you’re going to I/O though you are definitely better off reserving a seat judging by last years sessions which closed out quickly.
There’s a heap of features mainly aimed at attendees including a map to show you where everything is, info about on the ground Wi-Fi and tips for getting to/from the event (use Uber or Lyft).
As usual, the app looks great. The Google I/O app, indeed any new Google app is a good way to check out what Google is thinking in terms of where design is heading for Google and their web/Android apps.
The app is available to download now for Android or iOS, or you can simply pin the webapp to your home screen which works quite well too.
