Samsung won’t be updating two devices of theirs to Android 4.0 ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’. Those two devices are the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab (7-inch) — both have fairly good specs, so you would think an update would be possible, however, it’s not. Samsung is blaming themselves because Android 4.0 with TouchWiz won’t fit on the devices in terms of ROM and RAM. Here’s a perfect example of why carrier skins have more negatives than positives.
HTC had this exact problem with the Gingerbread update for the HTC Desire — the update couldn’t fit on the device because Android 2.3 + Sense UI took up too much of the hardware resources. HTC did manage to push out a stripped-down version of Android 2.3 for the Desire which contained less applications but still included parts of Sense UI. Samsung are saying they won’t do this as it will affect the customer’s experience.
people shouldn’t be pissed these phones are 18months old I would rather Samsung invest in marking the Galaxy S3 better because my contact will be up soon and I’ll be looking for an upgrade
cm7 is fine for now and cm9 for sgs s is coming along nicely its only a matter of time
also Samsung will not ditch touchwiz is there own branding of Android we might not like it but to most people with these phones they don’t care
Very annoying, yet the custom ICS roms for the sgs are already excellent. I’ve been using one for a week or so now and it has been rock solid. Better than any of the official roms really.
Quick idea…. drop touchwiz… NO WAI!
I agree!!
Ok, apple still support 3gs with ios 5xx, i dont go again for samsung i advise everyone to do the same, bye samsung
But not the 3g damit
I have no problem with them not using these phones as they are very old.. This is why I will never again get a phone on a contract…
BUT, and it’s a huge ginormous butt, id Samsung themselves aren’t going to the support these devices anymore they should at last help the developers trying to port custom roms to them with respect to drivers etc…

I think you mean Android 2.3 there 。(^_^)。
Can confirm. I was high & drunk. Cheers mate 🙂
I don’t get why they don’t take the opportunity to streamline Touchwiz for these devices, rather than abandoning them like this. Oh yeah, no money in that…
This shit is one of the big reasons people use CyanogenMod and other custom ROMs.
But it’s not the carriers that do this, although they’re responsible for adding their own bloat. It’s the manufacturers. They feel the need to differentiate their devices, which is understandable with Android being open and available to all. But the result is usually sub-optimal and ends up crippling otherwise capable hardware.
1) You mention HTC and Android 3.2, I think you mean 2.3.
2) Too bad Samsung won’t release stock ICS for the Galaxy S 1 and Tab.
But cm9 will

2) Sad truth.
