Huawei offering insights into the future of the ‘Connected Home’ through demonstrations at Bondi Junction this school holidays

Huawei is running an interesting demonstration these school holidays centres around the concept of the ‘Connected Home’. Huawei have set up their experience stand at the Westfield shopping centre in Bondi Junction in Sydney and will be running demonstrations of their media hub – the MediaQ – until this Sunday(October 6th).

The stand is seen by Huawei as a good way to get Australian consumers familiar with the range of products that Huawei sell and have a hands-on experience with them. Huawei Australia Account Director Geison Jiao says that

Huawei’s Devices business goes beyond our latest range of smartphones, so we’re giving a special sneak preview of new ‘Connected Home’ technologies like the MediaQ so users can experience what Huawei’s latest innovations can bring to their own homes. Huawei wants to broaden our Devices business in Australia to include solutions for small to medium enterprises, opening up the doors to new channel partners. This experience stand will
show users the direction Huawei Devices technology is moving into.

With the connected home concept, Huawei are hoping to build some buzz around the MediaQ, which is an Android based media device that connects into the TV in your home via a HDMI. Hardware wise, the device runs the Huawei manufactured K3V2 Quad-Core Cortex A9 CPU, comes with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage but there is a microSD Card Slot for extra storage and connects to your network using Wi-Fi 802.11n but also uses Bluetooth 4.0.

The MediaQ which runs a customised version of Android offers different options for browsing the web, watching videos and using Apps from Google Play, there’s also ways to share the content from your tablets and phones to the MediaQ to display on the TV. The MediaQ hasn’t got a release date or pricing in Australia as yet but it’s quite an intriguing product.

Huawei have produced an introduction video on the MediaQ if you aren’t in the vicinity of Sydney in the next few days.

As well as the MediaQ, Huawei is also showing off the latest in their tablet and phone lineups including their current flagship the Huawei Ascend P6, as well as their superfast Media Pad 10 4G and Ascend P2, both devices have the distinction of being respectively the first Category 4 LTE tablet and smartphone in Australia.

Huawei has also arranged for a range of local sports stars to make daily appearances at the Bondi Junction stand, stars scheduled to appear at the stand include former Sydney Roosters player Brad Fittler and Sydney Swans stars Shane Mumford, Jarrad McVeigh, Ted Richards, and Ryan O’Keefe. Huawei is updating their Facebook page with details on the times and dates for the appearances so make sure to check it out before heading down.
