The launch of the first standalone Daydream View headset is getting closer with a device from Lenovo labelled the Mirage Solo with Daydream passing through the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Google first announced standalone Daydream View headsets at Google I/O earlier this year. HTC, the other partner announced at the time has since pulled out, leaving Lenovo as the solo manufacturer of Google Daydream View standalone headsets – making the Mirage Solo name quite apt.
The FCC documentation is locked, but a PDF supplied by Dutch site Lets Go Digital, has shed some light on the specs. According to the site, the headset has Bluetooth 5.0 and a 4,000mAh battery which should be good for extended gaming sessions.
Lenovo has been releasing a number of headsets for Virtual, and Mixed Reality with their Windows 10 based headset, and the new Jedi Challenges Augmented Reality headset (also called Mirage) a hot Christmas gift this year.
The FCC documentation has also mentioned a standalone controller – Model #: DG1CA – which could be coming with the headset. The external photos of the headset are locked untilthe 19th of June next year, so we’ll likely see the headset in person before those unlock.
In May, Google said that the headsets would be available by the end of the year, but that’s looking unlikely. Rumours are pointing towards a launch of the headset at CES in Las Vegas early next month. If not released then, we’ll likely see the headset at Mobile World Congress.
