Google has begun testing a new app in limited markets in the US which aims to help users share hyper-local news about their community.
Called Bulletin, the app is a lightweight app that is currently only in limited testing in Nashville, Tennessee and Oakland, California. Users share stories with photos, videoclips and text from their phones publishing straight to the web without the need to setup a website or blog.
The app is aimed at giving people more information about the happenings in their local community without the need to rely on major news organisations who often only focus on larger metropolitan areas. As Google puts it ‘Bulletin helps you tell the stories that aren’t being told’.
There’s always apps such as Twitter and other social media apps which you can try to follow news in your local area, but this seems to be quite a decent tool to allow a lot of information to be shared easily. It’s in limited pilot at this stage, with Google not yet sharing details on when availability will open up more broadly, but I for one can’t wait to give it a shot.
