Messaging service Telegram has today announced a new Database Library, appropriately named TDLib which they say will enable third-party developers to ‘build fast, secure and feature-rich Telegram apps’ on the platform.
The Telegram Database Library takes care of all the network implementation details, encryption and local data storage, allowing developers to get down to the business of implementing new and cool features. The TDLib is available to developers to build Telegram apps on Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, Linux and they say ‘virtually any other system’.
Interested developers can program in any programming language that can execute C, and the code is now available on GitHub with documentation also available.
Telegram has said that the TDLib will allow apps to ‘remain stable on slow and unreliable Internet connections and guarantees that all updates will be delivered in the correct order’. Security is maintained as well with Telegram saying that ‘All local data is encrypted using a user-provided encryption key’.
The TDLib has already been used by a third party to create a new client called Telegram X which has also been officially been unveiled today.
