Samsung’s Bixby is a contentious service/assistant, but we may see more of its underlying intentions with the Samsung executive behind Bixby heading to work for Google.
According to an article on ZDNet, former CTO at Samsung mobile, Injong Rhee, will join Google as an entrepreneur-in-residence. As well as Bixby, Rhee was also in charge of the well regarded KNOX security platform present in Samsung Galaxy devices as well as Samsung Pay which has been seeing fairly broad adoption both globally and here in Australia.
According to ZDNet, Mr Rhee will be working on IoT projects within Google, a good match given his previous position at Samsung which saw him overseeing Samsung mobile’s R&D team.
Mr Rhee first started at Samsung in 2011, and nearly seven years later the move to Google is a pretty big one. Exactly what he’ll be doing in the IoT team at Google is unclear but we’ll have to wait to find out – we just hope a random button doesn’t appear on the Pixel 3.
