Huawei has been hitting their stride this year, with the launch of a range of new phones that look great and come with stunning features and cameras. The latest model to hit our shores is the Nova 3i which goes up for pre-sale today with a bonus set of Huawei Freebuds.

The Nova 3i carries Huawei’s camera know-how into their Nova series, incorporating four camera sensors (24MP and 2MP on the front, and 16MP and 2MP on the rear) in a stunning, sleek body that comes in both a stylish, classic black, and a simply stunning ‘Iris Purple’ option that has to be seen in person.

The phone includes a 6.3″ 2340×1080 FHD+ resolution FullView Display – yes, there’s a notch – packed into a body measuring just 157.6 x 75.2 mm in which Huawei have managed to pack a 3340mAh battery that’s just 7.6 mm thick. That body also includes a powerful Kirin 710 processor with AI, 4GB RAM and a massive 128GB built-in memory which can be supplemented with a micorSD card up to 256GB.

Larking Huang, Managing Director of Huawei Australia Consumer Business Group said of the Nova 3i

Our mantra has always been to create products with innovations that enrich the lives of our users. We accomplished this with the amazing Huawei P20 Pro, arguably the best camera smartphone in the world right now. But our mission has always been to make cutting edge technologies more widely accessible which is why it’s our privilege to introduce the Huawei nova 3i – one of our most exciting achievements yet.

Huawei has included an ergonomically placed rear fingerprint sensor on the Nova 3i, or you can choose to take advantage of their fast and secure face unlock using their front-facing cameras.

Camera AI

The AI mode included in the Nova 3i harkens back to their launch of the Kirin 970 chipset with its built-in Neural Network Processing Unit. Huawei have brought the technology down to their more budget range of devices with the Kirin 710, which offers the same scene and object recognition first shown off in the flagship Mate 10/Mate 10 Pro series phones.

Huawei’s AI allows them to both recognise over 500 scenarios across 22 categories and optimised the camera for those scenarios, and map out facial features in 3D and apply powerful, adjustable 3D lighting effects to recreate stunningly beautiful portraits for selfies on the front cameras.

Availability and Huawei Freebuds Pre-Order Bonus

Huawei will be launching the Nova 3i on August 23rd in Black and Iris Purple for a RRP of $599 through JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Mobileciti, Bing Lee and Officeworks.

For anyone wanting to jump on-board and place a pre-order online for the phone from one of those retailers between now and the launch date, Huawei are offering a pre-order bonus of their Huawei Freebuds (valued at RRP $199).

Huawei Freebuds are completely wireless bluetooth earbuds that sit comfortably in the ear and offer up to 10 hours of music playback or phone calls through the charging case (3 hours on a single charge). The Freebuds are usable across any conditions including in the gym with an IP54 rating that protects from the sweat of the hardest workout.

The inclusion of 4 mics offer a crystal clear sound when on a call, and dynamic drivers with independent equalization (EQ) adjustment giving you a great sound, which Huawei says includes ‘crisp treble, natural alto & deep bass’.

The Freebuds include both an infrared sensor which can sense when the earbuds are in your ears and when you take them out, as well as a built-in G-Sensor that detects movement and allow for touch control, letting you call a voice assistant, take or end a call, or play or pause music with a simple tap.

Wrap

So far this year Huawei has impressed us with the P20 Pro, as well as the Nova 3e, so we have high hopes for the Nova 3i – as well as the Huawei Freebuds. We’ve got the Nova 3i and Freebuds on the test bench now, so stay tuned for a review in the near future.
