The inevitable announcements of when manufacturers will deliver the latest version of Android, and to which devices has begun. HTC broke strongly out of the gates yesterday and today Sony has apparently had something to say as well.

According to GizChina, Sony has announced that six of their 2017/2018 handsets will see the Android 9.0 (Pie) update. The phones will begin to see the update from September with the rollout planned to progress through to November. The list of phones to be updated include:

  • Xperia XZ1/Xperia XZ1 Compact
  • Xperia XZ Premium
  • Xperia XZ2/Xperia XZ2 Compact
  • Xperia XZ2 Premium

Sony has a strong history of rolling out platform updates to their handsets in a timely manner, and the inclusion of the Xperia XZ2 in the official Android P beta has obviously helped.

The time-frame for updates seems quite fast, so perhaps all that work done on Project Treble in Android Oreo, and continued in Android Pie has done the trick.

sony handsets become very slow with the upgrades. they have too many 3rd party apps which u cannot uninstall, upgrade will only make the phone slower so that u r forced to upgrade.

I have owned 3 Sony handsets and have never found that to be the case.they have less 3rd party apps than .ostensibly other OEMs as they use the standard Google apps for many things instead of doubling up.
