Hisense today announced a new TV with a new screen technology intended to deliver deeper blacks without using expensive OLED technology.
The ULED XD is intended to challenge LG’s premium OLED TVs in colour reproduction and image quality.
The Dual Cell technology used in the Hisense ULED XD is a fusing of two LCD layers – one is a greyscale layer that handles luminance, while the other is a typical colour LCD panel. The result is that the greyscale layer can block light making it through to the colour layer, providing better contrast and more accurate dimming zones.
Combined with Hisense’s proprietary image processing, along with Dolby Vision, the Dual Cell technology ought to produce an excellent viewing experience.
From looking at the image, we speculate the TV has an inbuilt soundbar, and we know it’s compatible with Dolby Atmos audio. Hisense isn’t sharing information about how big it is yet. More information will be available in the coming months.
The Hisense ULED XD TV will launch locally later this year – likely in the second half of the year, with pricing yet to be confirmed.
