Xiaomi will be getting the jump on MWC 2020, launching its new phone Thursday this week. Considering that Xiaomi’s star is rising in western markets – and is already quite successful in China – this phone will be big news.

Of course, the timing isn’t ideal – Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked 2020 is on this Tuesday – meaning that some of the limelight will undoubtedly be stolen. However, Xiaomi and Samsung are targeting different markets, so this close timing mightn’t really matter.

There’s two variants rumoured – the Xiaomi Mi 10 and a possible Pro model. Both phones are rumoured to boast 6.5-inch OLED displays running at a 90Hz refresh rate, so they certainly count as high-end as far as the screens go.

Inside we’re expecting the very latest Snapdragon 865 chipset to make one of its first appearances this year, while configuration options are likely to include up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage space. A 5G option is also a distinct possibility, but far from confirmed.

As far as cameras go, it looks as though the same 108MP camera that featured in the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 is going to make another appearance, as part of a four-camera array on the back of these handsets.

With the announcement a couple of days away, we’ll have the latest for you soon.

Why are manufacturers making 90Hz screens? Are we really going to see a noticeable, meaningful difference? Surely this is just going to reduce battery life for no good reason?
