Huawei’s upcoming P40 series smartphones will be announced towards the end of next month, but that hasn’t stopped the company showing off its cheaper option first.
The P40 Lite is a rebrand of the Huawei’s existing Nova 6 SE, meaning it can get around the US trade ban.
The key hardware includes a 6.4-inch IPS display with a holepunch camera, and the phone is powered by Huawei’s Kirin 810 chipset. 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage are inside, and the cameras include a 48MP main lens, 8MP wide lens and 2MP macro and depth sensors. The battery is a 4200mAh unit for all-day power.
Of course, the handset won’t come with Google Services, so it’s a bit of a hard sell for the average punter. Out of the box, it won’t include the Google Play store, let alone apps like YouTube or Gmail.
Pricing is set at EUR€299, or just about $500 converted. There will be a presale event from the 2nd of March to the 16th, during which Huawei will give away a pair of its true wireless Freebuds headphones and a screen protector.
