HiSense Vision
Chinese electronics manufacturer Hisense announced a range of Android powered SmartTVs under the Vision brand at CES back in January. Now Hisense has advised that Vision SmartTVs will begin appearing in a range of Australian retailers from May.

The Vision SmartTVs are a big step forward for Hisense, promising an easy to use interface which is backed up by research from Hisense which promises to get the user experience “just right”. Along with an intuitive interface, one of the core features of the Vision SmartTVs is their 30-button remote control which includes ‘built-in air wand technology’ as well as a microphone to enable voice control. The Voice control is powered by the ‘Google voice recognition system’ which should equate to a good experience when talking to your TV.

Andre Iannuzzi, Head of Marketing, Hisense Australia announced the launch saying

Looking hard at consumer interaction with traditional Smart TV’s, it was clear for Hisense to develop VISION Smart TV’s. Hisense have invested heavily in order to launch a product that consumers will feel is an extension of their existing devices rather than a new navigation experience. The brand is recognised and continues to pursue the highest product reliability combined with the latest technology for consumers and we’re looking forward to consumers embracing Hisense VISION powered by Android.

Being Android powered, the interface is designed to be easy to navigate and give consumers easy access to the content that they want, almost as easily as if they were on a mobile device. Utilising the Android core, there will be a range of Apps available on the TV, all powered by Google Play. From well known apps like Pandora Internet Radio, through to Google Apps such as Chrome, YouTube and more will also be accessible, as will Google’s streaming services Google Play Movies, TV and Music, as well on-demand TV services from local providers such as the SBS OnDemand service will be available.

Hisense has kicked off the Vision SmartTV campaign with a national TV ad campaign, tieing in with their announcement as official television supplier of the 2014 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix, which is running in Melbourne this weekend.

Hisense has not yet announced which models of Vision TVs will be launching here in Australia, with more information on models expected closer to the launch. The VISION series Smart TV line-up will be available at major retailers such as Betta Electrical, Harvey Norman, Myer, The Good Guys and JB Hifi across Australia from the first of May.

That looks like a pretty nice and clean implementation of Android on a big screen. Very interesting.
