LG are looking to return to the top end of the smartphone market this year with the LG Velvet and all leaks and teasers so far point to it being a decent device. The phone is a great looking device housing mid to premium tier specs.

Overnight we have seen a couple of leaks that detail the specs on LG’s flagship set to be announced on May 7. One of the leaks is a set of promotional posters and the other a retail spec sheet, and they both add detail to the specs that we either know or suspect.

The retail spec sheet above confirm the presence of a Snapdragon 765 5G chipset, a 16MP selfie camera, a triple rear camera of 48MP, 8MP and 5MP. There will be 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. LG have also included an IP68 waterproof rating and an average battery of 4,300mAh, available in Aurora White, Aurora Grey, Aurora Green, and Sunset colour options.

The promotional posters further confirm these with what appears to be the waterproof rating, wireless charging, the battery size and MIL-STD-810G certification for durability.

As you can see with the specs mentioned above they are not ultra-premium specs but more inline with a new mid-premium range of around or just under the $1000 mark. LG seem to be attempting to tap into an every burgeoning mid to upper end market segment and after their mishaps in the premium market in recent years that may be a good idea. The LG Velvet looks set to bring some beef to the mid-range market — whether it can perform up to its hype remains to be seen.

What let’s LG down the most is there history of upgrades. At $1000 or even heavily discounted at $700 couldn’t see myself buying an LG for anyone in the family again. Last LG was the G4.
