Galaxy K Zoom
Late in April, Samsung finally took the wraps of their newest Camera experience phone, unveiling the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom. The Galaxy K Zoom, is the spiritual successor to the Galaxy S4 Zoom, but Samsung has decided to forgo the co-branding that went with the earlier model. The phone has finally shown up in Australia, not on a carrier, or in one of the traditional retailers but in the Samsung Experience store in Sydney, where it’s selling for $699.

If you’ve forgotten the phone is more camera than phone, and Samsung seems determined to make you remember that, which makes the decision to distance themselves from the Galaxy S5 branding. The Galaxy K Zoom comes with a 4.8 inch HD (1280×720 resolution) Super AMOLED Display and is powered by a Hexa core – 1.3GHz Quad-Core + 1.7GHz Dual-Core – Processor with 2GB of RAM. There’s 8GB of storage on-board, but remember it’s a camera, so you’ll want expandable memory which is available by means of a microSD card slot.

But, if you’ve been looking at the Galaxy K Zoom, then it’s photography you’re interested in and the Galaxy K Zoom definitely delivers. A 20.7 Mega pixel 1/2.3 BSI CMOS Sensor comes on the camera-phone, and includes a 10x (24-240mm, F3.1-6.3) Optical Zoom. The K Zoom includes Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) with an AutoFocus LED included. But you can also use the front-facing 2.0MP camera for video conferencing.

Software has not been forgotten either, with Samsung including a few features focused (hah) on the photography side of things :

  • AF/AE Separation (Auto Focus/ Auto Exposure Separation) brings a more precise balance of light and clarity,
  • Pro Suggest mode offers up to 5 filter settings based on the current environment,
  • Selfie Alarm snaps three photos when it detects it’s pointed at your head, and
  • Object tracing allows the device to capture a clear, focused shot of a moving subject

We’ve approached Samsung Australia to see if there are any plans to expand availability of the camera-phone and we’ll update as soon as we hear anything.

Hi Daniel, Nice article. I was going through the Samsung Australia website to order one for me but can’t seem to find it on their website. Do you know of a store in Australia where it is available? I am from New Zealand thou 🙂
