Update: The Arc looks as though it will hit a $799 price point on launch, as well as launching at $10 on the $49 and $5 on the $59 Cap plans with Optus.
According to Optus‘ April ‘yes’ catalogue, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is launching on both their consumer and business $79 Caps. The only problem is there is no release date given, only “Coming Soon” is mentioned, let’s hope sooner rather then later. According to reports and our own leaked roadmap, May seems like the month in question. This mirrors Optus’ launch on the X10 last year. Back in May they launched the X10 on the same plan combination as they are the Arc. It would have been nice to see it launch on the $59 Cap, what do you guys think? Found some more info as to the reasons for the delays in the Xperia play and neo and stock limited numbers of the arc… As Sony Ericsson continues to assess the impact of the situation in Japan on its business, we have communicated to our operator customers and distributors that some volume of Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY and Xperia neo phones has been affected. I did question an optus quiosk operator about the delay … i was told by him (and not using this info as accurate but simply logically viable) that the phones (SE arc) was preloaded with the incorrect emergency number for the australian services and has since been recalled and expect them to be re delivered first week of june… again i say this is just work of mouth and not a company statement in any shape or form

The Sony Ericsson arc has been withdrawn from the optus consumer and business plans i was looking at and made an online for a 59+5handset business plan with the first 3 months free … although the order was confirmed on optus end was cancelled 2 days later due to an aparent stock issue…

it is on a 59 cap, however u need to add 5 bucks with that for handset, a ripoff really since the phone is only 799 RRP. i do not get any mobiles unless they are free on 49 cap. i have n97 still and i am on 29 cap with 20 bucks phone repayment. I dont call that much but would go to max free on 49 cap with any new upgrade i do in future for the benefit of getting 1.5GB internet plan, which back in 08 i got no MB data on 29 cap LOL
#fail at the that price. I would pay that price for a dual core on telstra but not on optus. I wonder how android is meant to compete in this country with pricing like this. But then it is a SE and their phones have always been super expensive
Seem’s a bit much considering that the dual-cores are comin out soon but guess no carrier has any at the moment so they can do as they like with this slick phone. Might end up buying outright from MobiCity then going on the BYO phone plan.
just slightly sexier but still not much difference with a 29 cap X10… slight proc upgrade, slim down, slap on gingerbread voila!
it also has proper multitouch and a better camera. Also about 3mm thinner. Not $50 a month better tho.

This price will probably go down when the dual cores come to town.

What a awesome beautiful Android smartphone. My next Android phone will be a Sony. Nice unique industrial design makes them stand out from the crowd

Seems a bit much to me considering how much the Desire HD is going for these days, and HTC has a better track record of keeping their phones up to date.
