HTC have added a new smartphone to its Desire family of mobile phones, announcing the Desire 510 – a mid-range 4G/LTE enabled budget device that comes with Android 4.4 and Sense 6 on board.

The Desire 510 does offer pretty decent specs for a mid range budget device. With that in mind, HTC CEO Peter Chou is aware that budget devices should offer a great experience for consumers purchasing lower end phones, saying

Owning the latest and greatest technology shouldn’t be reserved for those with the highest budgets. People today should expect their smartphones to double as mobile entertainment hubs. This means ensuring that they’re fully loaded with the latest movies, TV shows and albums, by taking advantage of the super-fast network speeds available. The HTC Desire 510 does this and more, making it the perfect mobile media device.

While it’s not the highest end specs in all regards, it is HTC’s first phone containing a 64-bit processor, with the Qualcomm manufactured Snapdragon 410 powering the handset.

HTC have stated that the HTC Dot Case, which was made available with the companies current flagship device, the HTC One (M8), will also be made available to the Desire 510 for an additional price, although there was no official word on the cost of this case for the new Desire 510.

HTC has advised that the Desire 510 will be available with mobile operators and major retailers in Europe and Asia as well as through select carriers in the US. We’ve seen leaked information previously that the Desire 510 will launch in Australia very shortly, so we await pricing and plan information when available.

Would have been better to have a 720p screen and dropped the quad for a dual core, bit of a missed opportunity.

If they can’t put a 720p screen and 16Gb of on-board storage in the device, then it should NOT be called a mid-range device
Sub 720p and less than 16Gb is budget, entry level.
