As IFA is just around the corner, we’re seeing increased chatter about what’s to be announced. It seems that we can firmly remove Sony’s Xperia Z3 Compact from the rumour file, though, and move it firmly across to fact.

Ausdroid has obtained access to press shots of the Z3 Compact, shown here for your enjoyment:

The press photos don’t confirm any specs, so at the moment we’re stuck with what’s been rumoured from earlier leaks; a 4.5″ display running at 720p, a 2.5 GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 processor and 2GB of on-board RAM. As Sony is well known for its optics, the Z3 Compact is likely to feature a fairly spectacular camera as well.

The colour choices seem to be white, black, mint and red orange, and it will be interesting to see which of this colour range makes it to Australia. Hopefully this time the Z3 Compact will be a bit more widely available; those of you who recall the Z1 Compact might also recall it was a Telstra exclusive, which probably kept it out of a few hands at least.

I have to say I find this to be a pretty good looking phone; nice compact size, bright colours, and of course Sony’s well-known power inside the frame.

Update, 1.30pm A source familiar with the specifications of the Xperia Z3 Compact has come forward with some more detail. We’re expecting to see Sony’s now-familiar 20.7MP camera make a return, but this time it’ll be connected to a Snapdragon 801 at 2.5Ghz with a 2600 mAh battery behind a 4.6-inch 720p display.

Interestingly, it’s also claimed that the Z3 Compact will use a Nano SIM (the original used a Micro SIM). Our source also confirms White, Black, Orange and Green colours although availability by region still isn’t known.

Too big 4.6″

warcaster

Same size as the previous 4.3″ one. But the screen is bigger. I wish people would stop using screen inches as a measure for how big a phone is. Measure how tall the phone is. Then you’ll know for sure if it’s too big or not.

Joshua Hill

That completely ignores whether you can one hand the device with your thumb reaching all over the screen. Both measurements are useful!

toast

Any shots of the front? I’m curious how Sony’s infamous bezels look.

JeniSkunk

toast, that was where I saw the front bezel colours, when I commented earlier this morning.

Iain Simmons

Yeah I don’t get Ausdroid’s new trend of excluding the feature image from the full article view… Bring it back!

Jason Murray

I’m officially denouncing the green version of this phone. When will Sony support the Resistance???

Dan Vafidis

Resistance is futile… #Enlightened

4.6″… well… hmmm.

I was interested, but to be honest 4.3″ seemed a bit too small.
4.6″ is nice. Not all that “Compact”, but nice.

rend2688

Dimensions are rumored to be the same as the Z1 Compact.

Mikel

As a Moto X refugee, I welcome a high-end 4.6 inch phone.

Wish it had stock Android, but them’s the breaks.

LegoVader

I hope the Android Silver program is still happening and they make a Nexus Z3 Compact

Iain Simmons

Sony’s Timescape UI isn’t too different to stock. They’re obviously not as quick with updates as Motorola though.

Kenny

Looks like a worthy replacement to my Nexus 4. This, or the Moto X+1, provided the screen size isn’t overly huge. I’m excited.

tonkotsu

DAM that mint green!! will start saving now

Dan Vafidis

Same here. I NO BUY NOTHIN UNTIL RELEASE

Conan

they might be the classiest colour choices i’ve ever seen. the red and the mint look stunning.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Depending on the price this might be great for my mum to upgrade to.

kungfutigerr

That red looks mighty tempting

pdffs

I don’t know about the optics comment – the camera on my Z1C is disgustingly bad.

Ben Freke

Mine’s fantastic, takes brilliant photos.

Depending on specs, I might be upgrading to this phone. Just because I can 🙂

Joshua Hill

Mine can be disgustingly bad or obscenely good. I took some wonderful photos on a recent holiday. Never once regretted not taking a dedicated camera. However I wouldn’t buy the Xperia line of phones with 20.7Mp camera solely for the camera or you will be dissapointed. More upset with the flash bleed issue that effected early adopters of the Z1 compact and Sony did nothing to fix the issue for those affected, arguably their best customers as they bought the phone early at the highest price. I’ll be very cautious before ever buying a Sony again because of their poor… Read more »

Dan Vafidis

you can fix the flash bleed yourself, just change the back glass with the japanese one (from ebay or wherever), they say it fixes the problem

Joshua Hill

I’ve done it twice now. It’s very easy and I can confirm it fixes the flash bleed.

Given this was a fault Sony fixed in later batches they should have offered to fix/repair effected users phones but apparently Sony doesn’t care about their supporters. The early adopters who keep them a float.

toast

I think this is the biggest upgrade that they can do. Get their photo processing software right.

Chris Watson

Sometimes the software can be annoying, but overall my Z1C takes impressive photos

Joshua Hill

I like the new red as opposed to the pink of the z1 compact. Neither the new mint green or the old lime green do anything for me. I wonder what % of phones sold are the green variety.

Dan Vafidis

I liked both (Green and Lime) and (red / pink), When Z3 is released It’ll be like creating a MMORPG Character, Biggest choice of a lifetime

Chris Rowe

Will buy

JeniSkunk

I’m wondering what material is being for the backs of them. With how glossy it looks, slipperiness could be an issue.
As for the fronts of them, Sony should seriously think about releasing white faces for the red and mint. Black faces on those just looks wrong.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Could just be the photo, I have a Z2 and it’s very easy to hold on to. Grip is definitely not an issue, for me anyway.

Henry Carter

due to the large market strategy of iPhone and Samsung, the demand of sony has been down. But the Dissertation Help Uk will high your academic mark at any cost.
