The Nexus 6 has been announced, but the lead up to the acutal on-sale date is still fraught with a lack of details on when we’ll see the phone internationally. But, it’s going up for pre-order in the US on the 29th of October, so that means it must be certified and it looks like it may have stepped through the FCC today.
There’s still a little controversy as to whether this is the Nexus 6 or not, at least on the reddit thread where it was linked from. The impetus for many equating this phone being certified by the FCC and the Nexus 6 lies in the dimensions supplied in the antenna diagram in the FCC SAR Test Report . The dimensions advertised on the diagram – 83×159.4mm – are close enough to the dimensions advertised by Google and Motorola on the Nexus 6 product page on Google Play – 82.98mm x 159.26mm x 10.06mm – near enough is good enough right?
There’s some discrepancies in the radio specs on the phone listed in the FCC too. The phone which passed through the FCC is listed as having LTE Bands: 2/4/5/712/13/17/25/26/41 which is slightly different from the Google specifications for the Nexus 6, which also lists LTE Band 3 and 29. But as one commenter points out ‘LTE Band 3, GSM 900/1800, WCDMA 1 and 8 are not used in the US. Band 29 is downlink only (the FCC only cares about transmission, they don’t care about reception)’. There’s still some discrepancies though, Google lists the Nexus 6 as containing GSM Bands: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and WCDMA bands: 1/2/4/5/8 for the Nexus 6. whereas this phone only has GSM 850/1900MHz and WCDMA Bands 2/4/5(II,IV,V) (at least that’s all that’s listed). There’s also the matter of the phone only being listed with Bluetooth 4.0, whereas Motorola and Google list Bluetooth 4.1.
The FCC SAR Report lists the Model # for the phone as: 4054, and there’s also apparently an international version (with the same SAR report specs) with Model #: 3600. The US version of the FCC is XT1100, while the International version is XT1103, so it’s not conclusive, but the phone IS almost the same physical size.
Well, it’s been passed through the FCC, so the phone has received certification for the US market. So, it’s back to wondering exactly when the Nexus 6 will go on-sale outside the US. The only indicator for that is a tweet from UK Based technology writer, hacker and pundit Paul O’brien of Modaco fame who tweeted that UK residents wouldn’t see the Nexus 6 before December.

We’ll be up and waiting on the morning of October 30th watching the Play store ready to place an order, just in case Google decides to extend pre-orders for the Nexus 6 to international customers. I guess we can all just play with the Nexus 9 till we know for sure, it’s due to ship out by the 5th of November.

Why is it only Apple that can say “Here is our new phone” and generally you can pick it up a week or 2 later.
I suspect it will be delayed by a month or more here which sucks.
I will be interested to see how many of these phones sell. Considering the Nexus lineup has always been known for affordability. If this is priced @ US $650 with non expandable memory, would it be fair to assume we are looking at an Australian price of $850.00..

God Motorola need to learn how to mass produce things. After the Moto X & Moto 360 delays, this is just starting to get boring.
I really wish the vapourware device launches would stop.
Today, it’s stupid to ‘launch’ a device that you aren’t ready to put on shelf globally, till several months after the ‘launch’.
