Smartpen company Livescribe has today launched their Android app for the Livescribe 3 onto Google Play for users in the US, Australia and New Zealand.
Transcribing notes from paper to digital is an archaic, yet still necessary evil in the business, and even personal use. The Livescribe 3 smartpen and Livescribe+ app does away with manual transcription, letting you digitise those notes onto an Android or iOS phone or tablet, giving you easily searchable notes which are organised, and lets you share the notes quickly.
As well as written notes, the Livescribe 3 lets you record ‘Pencasts’ incorporating audio notes into your workflow for sharing or storing.
The Livescribe 3 is able to be connected to up to four different iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, giving you the freedom to use the smartpen at home, or the office without tying you to a single device.
The actual pairing of the smartpen could be streamlined, with the Livescribe Link app required just to pair the pen without a pairing code. The Livescribe Link app is also used to check compatibility of your Android device, with both the Livescribe Link, and Livescribe+ app requiring Android 4.4 and above to work. Hopefully Livescribe can streamline this into a single package ahead of a wider launch.
The app is in preview at this stage in the limited market, but they expect to go wider in the next few weeks. The Livescribe 3 can be purchased from Officeworks or the Apple store in Australia for around $199. Livescribe are sending us a review unit to test out and we’ll see how it goes shortly.
