Smartphone maker, OPPO, has today announced they have been named as the official worldwide mobile phone partner of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The 4-year deal which runs from 2016 until 2019 will see Oppo branding attached to ICC cricket fixtures throughout the world, including the ICC Cricket World Cup, the ICC World Twenty20, the ICC Champions Trophy, the ICC Women’s World Cup, the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup and many more. Oppo will be displaying their brand at the matches as well as hosting fan engagement sessions.
The deal is the second high profile sports deal, announcing a partnership with Football club FC Barcelona earlier this year.
Speaking about the partnership, OPPO Australia, CMO Michael Tran said,
We know how passionate Aussies are about cricket, so this partnership seemed like a very natural fit as we look to expand our brand locally.
OPPO is very enthusiastic about supporting international cricket, and cooperating with the ICC in bringing cricket fans more of the world-class competitions that the organisation is known for. The partnership will allow us to continue to strengthen our links with consumers, as we join them in celebrating the great sport of cricket.
A well known and successful brand in their home country of China, Oppo has been building their brand worldwide over the last few years, moving into Australia as their first foray into western markets before announcing recently a move into Europe, where they began selling their Oppo R7s handset on the 1st of December.
Oppo handsets are quite well made as we’ve found in several reviews of their handsets since their launch in Australia. Oppo started out with an online only sales approach before partnering with AllPhones and Dick Smith to show off their phones in retail stores, before moving the Oppo R7 into the Optus device catalogue where it sells on a 24 month contract, showing that the Oppo brand is definitely becoming more well known.
Oppo recently announced Project Spectrum to deliver a more ‘stock’ Android experience for several of their phones winning over a number of potential customers in the Android enthusiast market.
This deal with the ICC will only further their reach in terms of market share in markets like Europe, Australia, India, Pakistan and other cricket loving countries.
