Huawei and Leica have made an interesting announcement overnight, announcing a new partnership that will bring a ‘reinvention of smartphone photography’.
The announcement made last night in London, brings together Huawei, the worlds third-largest smartphone manufacturer, and Leica, an iconic camera maker who have been creating world-class cameras and lenses for over 100 years.
The relationship will involve the two companies partnering to share information covering areas such as research and development, design, co-engineering, user experience, marketing and retail distribution. With Huawei advising that we’ll see the results of the partnership this year, describing the strategic partnership as ‘a mutually beneficial collaboration’.
Richard Yu, CEO of the Huawei Consumer BG said:
We choose our partners carefully, and with this extraordinary collaboration we are offering our wide customer base and consumers the best elements of two expert brands in harmony: combining innovation and design, enhancing the user experience and continuing to inspire amazing advancement in human technology through exceptional premium imaging quality. Leica is a legend in the world of photography; we believe no other manufacturer has revolutionised the industry as much as them. We, Huawei, take the utmost pride in exceptional quality and Leica is in a class of its own in its sector.
The Huawei P9 is the next phone expected to be announced by the company, and given the focus on photography in the P8 last year it’s possible we may see the fruits of this partnership sooner rather than later.
