Google is building the next version of Android in preparation for the May Google I/O conference where we expect to see developer builds distributed for Nexus devices. Between now and then, there’s going to be changes, but yesterday on the Android Developers blog about Android Support Library 23.2 we got to see a preview of the Settings screen.

The screenshots show the settings menu, with a hamburger menu at the top left – something we haven’t seen in previous Android builds. The theory is that the menu would provide access to the settings normally only accessible by going back to the main settings screen, which in theory could be faster.

The screenshots show day/night theme, but the highlight here is that hamburger menu. There’s a lot of time between now and Google I/O so we’ll have to wait and see whether this particular visual and usability change will make it into final builds.
