Google Photos is almost constantly being updated and improved, and for those of us who use the service to archive their photos from holidays and more, Google’s about to make it a whole lot more useful. There are 100 million users at the moment, and with today’s new feature, users will never forget a trip or fun weekend getaway again.

When Google detects that you’ve gone on a trip to somewhere new, Photos will automatically suggest a new album for you. It will curate your best shots, add a map to show how far you traveled and location pins to remember where you went. You can even add text captions to the album and share the albums for others to add their own photos.

For those who’ve used Google Photos before, you’ll notice that some of this kind of already happens; I quite often find that Photos’ Assistant creates a story for me with some of these features — including maps, photos from new places etc — but it’s not as cohesive as what’s been announced today. The feature hasn’t quite landed on our devices here at the Ausdroid office, but when it does, we’ll take a look through it and see how it could work … though I suspect the best way to test it is by going on a trip!

Let us know if you’ve received the new feature yet!

Nice. Photos is already very good. It’s hard to believe they keep improving it 🙂
