It’s taken years, but the so-called ‘Front page of the internet’ finally has an Android app, with the official reddit app now available to download from Google Play.
The app has been in beta for a couple of months now, but is now open to all users to download. The app is quite good looking with a nice clean Material Design influence. There’s all the Material mainstays there from the Floating Action Button to add a new post, to the slide out Nav drawer to access all the sub-reddits you’re subscribed to or search for a new one.
The app has themes, with a nice bright white the default with a card view that displays a thumbnail preview of the post, but there’s an option to switch to a compact view. For those that prefer a darker theme the night theme is available in settings to save your night vision.
Those of you who prefer to peruse the more ‘adult’ sub-reddits will be wise to jump in and flick the ‘I’m over 18 years old’ switch, and if you want to be more circumspect you can also choose to blur nsfw images.
If you’re used to using reddit on multiple accounts, you can add new ones in easily from the settings menu, though the mechanic to switch user is a bit harder to access than some other third party reddit apps on the market.
The whole reddit experience is here, with upvotes/downvotes, easily viewed comments and of course the little envelope at the top of the main page that lights up orange when you get a message or reply.
