For our friends across the Pacific Ocean living in New Zealand, Google has some great news for you: Android Pay is live, today. It seems from the launch announcement that at present only the Bank of New Zealand is onboard with the launch as a Banking partner.

For those of you lucky enough to bank with BNZ you can download and install the app, register your Flexi Debit Visa card and get to paying for stuff. We’ve found Android Pay works everywhere that traditional tap and pay works, however, the retail launch partners include McDonalds, Domino’s, Burger Fuel (great burgers BTW), Vodafone and more.

Unfortunately, there isn’t any more information about when/ if other Banks and payment cards will be coming online, however, if the International experience is the same I think our NZ friends can look forward to more banks and cards trickling online over the coming months.

If you’re a Kiwi and you want to buy your next bottle of L&P with Android Pay download the app below.

BNZ was one of two banks (ASB was the other) that offered Semble, which required a special SIM card to work for Android NFC payments. Semble was discontinued earlier this year.

While EFTPOS is everywhere, tap and pay machines aren’t as common here as they are in Australia (unless that has changed in the last 12 months), so you still need to carry plastic for a lot of purchases.

And yeah, Burger Fuel FTW 🙂
