This is a headline that could very well be misinterpreted in Australia! To be clear the Google app for Android has added a new setting for the Google Assistant for notifications. When you jump in there your only option currently is to be notified when Google has a new Doodle that contains games, videos and interactive experiences.

For those who don’t know what a Google Doodle is, it is the name Google gives to their logo banner, as I’m sure all of you know they often dress up the banner to celebrate or commemorate special occasions, people and events.

On our Pixel devices, the setting will be at the top of the list not under “Google Assistant”. I’ve had the setting active for about 24 hours and as yet no notifications for any cool new Google Doodles but I live in hope. The update appears to be a server-side change so if you’re not seeing it yet just hang on.

I’m still not seeing the option to pay for my google drive storage with my google play balance or pay for a year’s sub at once.
