Update: Asus Australia have confirmed the Eee Pad Slider’s availability
Hi @Ausdroid, confirmed. The Eee Pad Slider SL101 is an Australian model which has just been released today. Website will be updated soon 🙂
A reader recently sent us in this picture of the Asus Eee Pad Slider sitting happily on a shelf in JB Hi-Fi. We never heard anything about an Australian release for this device, so this all came as a bit of a surprise. The device on sale at JB Hi-Fi is the 16GB Wi-Fi only variant which will set you back $694. The specs are what you’d expect of a device like this:
- Android 3.1 (3.2 upgradable)
- 10.1-inch IPS LED 1280×800 Display
- NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual-Core CPU (we assume 1GHz)
- 1GB RAM, 16GB Internal Memory
- Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR
- 5MP Rear Camera / 1.3MP Front Camera
- Weighs 960grams
So it’s a fairly heavy device, but nothing out of the ordinary for such an interesting looking device. Our reader said that you had to ‘flip’ the screen up to get to the full physical QWERTY keyboard, instead of ‘sliding’ it like its name suggests. The Eee Pad Slider isn’t listed on JB Hi-Fi’s online store nor is it listed on Asus’ Australian site — interesting.

Not on the online store site, but it is on the main JB site here http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/tablet/eee-pad-asus/10-inch-slide-tablet-16gb-sku-71113/Â .
I saw it at Bing Lee yesterday, and had a bit of a touch & feel.  Quite honestly, it feels a bit flimsy in the “slide” mechanism.  The entire thing is way more chunky than I would have thought they were aiming for.  It felt like holding the Transformer and docking keyboard in my hands while trying to use it. I don’t think it is quite as versatile, even if it is “more convenient”.  I’d rather lug my docking keyboard around seperately if I thought I was going to need it.  All in all, I love my EeePad Transformer TF101, and… Read more »
Yep saw it in JB Albert St Brisbane on Saturday
