After the runaway success of Pokemon Go, the next title will focus on Wizards, specifically the wizarding world of J.K Rowlings Harry Potter, with the announcement of Wizards Unite.
Niantic will work with Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment and their development team at WB Games in San Francisco to launch the title. The game will see you exploring your city, or neighbourhood to ‘discover & fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies’. This would likely include some of the beasts seen in the Harry Potter books and movies as well as the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie as well.
While the game will use the same technology built for their other location based games, including Ingress as well as Pokemon Go, Niantic sees this as an opportunity to ‘pioneer all new technology and gameplay mechanics’.
There’s no announcement date for the game to launch, but TechCrunch has put a 2018 release date for the game.
We’re big fans of both Ingress and Pokemon Go here at Ausdroid and excited to see what Niantic can do with the world of Harry Potter.
